Join House of Sparrow Mahjong and Stitch Happens for a unique two-part beginner needlepoint series paired with 90 minutes of American Mah Jong Open Play each evening!
Our Needlepoint 101 is a two-part beginner workshop featuring 90 minutes of hands-on instruction each evening. Designed specifically for those who have never picked up a needlepoint canvas, this series will introduce you to the essential tools, techniques, and stitches needed to begin your needlepoint journey with confidence.
Through a combination of guided instruction, hands-on practice, and personalized support from Grace Pacheco, owner of Stitch Happens, you'll learn how to prepare your canvas, work with your needle and threads, master foundational stitches, and begin creating your very own needlepoint project.
Whether you're completely new to needlepoint or have always wanted to learn but didn't know where to start, this workshop provides a welcoming, supportive environment where you can learn at your own pace, ask questions, and discover a new creative hobby.
By the end of this two-part series, you'll have a strong understanding of needlepoint fundamentals, including how to read and work with your canvas, thread your needle, change colors, properly start and finish your threads, and practice two essential stitches. You'll leave with the tools, knowledge, and confidence to continue stitching at home!
And because this is House of Sparrow, we couldn't possibly gather without playing a little Mah Jong!
Each evening also includes 90 minutes of American Mah Jong Open Play — the perfect opportunity to enjoy the game you love while connecting with this amazing community.
No needlepoint experience is required. Just bring your enthusiasm, your love of Mah Jong, and a willingness to try something new!
Needlepoint Fundamentals: An introduction to essential needlepoint terminology, materials, and techniques.
Understanding Your Canvas & Tools: How to work with your canvas, needle, threads, and other supplies, including how to prepare your project for stitching.
Two Foundational Stitches: Learn and practice two basic needlepoint stitches that will help you build the foundation for future projects.
Getting Started & Finishing Your Threads: How to thread your needle, begin stitching, change threads and colors, secure your stitches, and finish your threads properly.
Two 90-minute Needlepoint 101 lessons with Grace Pacheco, owner of Stitch Happens.
Needlepoint 101 reference book to take home and continue learning.
Complete beginner needlepoint kit, including your choice of one of two canvas designs, threads, needle, needle threader, needle holder, and project bag.
